Holiday stitching so far…

day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4

Inspiration and organisation

Sometimes you just have to get organised to get inspired I think. Your look at a piece of hand dyed fabric and think “that will be perfect for xxx” and suddenly that is what you want to stitch.

What brings this on you may ask… Well, I got sick of going through bags of floss to find one specific colour that I haven’t yet wound onto a bobbin or is currently in use in another project, so tonight I sat down with my floss and sorted… And sorted. I still have to do my Venus threads, but my Anchor and DMC is now in labeled ziplock bags. I have so much brand loyalty for floss. The only ones I don’t particularly like are Sullivan brand floss.
It entertained me how much the coloured dyes vary how the skeins felt. It was like -soft, soft, smooth, rough. Can’t be helped, some dyes are not as nice as others.

Of course, I decided to take pictures.

This is all my Anchor floss in numerical order.

Dmc sorted into numerical order – with an awful lot of 310!!!

I know these aren’t ideal bags, but these threads have been sitting in the shopping bags they came in and I figured these couldn’t be worse.

I did an order a while ago- the government here is threatening to charge gst on any packages above $20 value. I bought the Raven Queen and the six Bewitching Pixies and all their beads and specialty threads.

I asked my sister which one I should start first (my holiday project -17 days off work, yay!), and she chose either Ana or Luna. I pulled the threads, and some fabric, and Ana it will be!

The fabric is big enough for two pixies, so I will do Ana and Luna side by side I think

The fabric has enough variation in it for both of them, I think. I will just have to make sure I stitch them both on the sides I have chosen.

I have done a very small amount on Cirque des coeurs. It is such a pretty thing…
I have been randomly working on things but no real progress to see… A little bit on my ryo and spot sampler.
I am starting 17 days holiday next week, so maybe I will be more motivated…

Minimal Mojo in 2015.

My stitching mojo has sadly disappeared. I feel like stitching on a project, add in a strand or two, and then don’t feel like stitching anymore.

I have been doing bits and pieces. No photos today, but I have almost finished part 1 of Chatelaine’s Sleeping Beauty/Anniversary sampler, and another spot or two on Weihenburg’s spot sampler SAL from 6 years ago.

To try and reignite my passion for stitching, plus the fact that they are trying to push through GST on packages valued more than $20, which sucks, I have done a big cross stitch order.

Raven Queen! Isn’t she fabulous. I also orderd the Bewitching Pixies. I think, when theya re all stitched up, they will look fabulous together.

I want to buy the Nora Corbett La Petite Mermaid collection as well. I will get around to stitching them eventually…

But in the meantime, I am thinking about a new house and new job…. Fantasy land is fun!

I have been feeling somewhat ambivalent about my stitching projects the last month or so,.. I started a new project while on holidays but have only been stitching sporadically since then.

Last night was the first night I felt like doing any stitching… But it was low going because I was playing catch up with season 3 or Orphan Black. It was a case of next episode please and OMG what’s going to happen next??? Oh yes… I was stitching…

So, a spot here:

And the start of Fall Fairy which was one of my holiday projects.

A start of something…

Sleeping Beauty’s Castle by Chatelaine Designs. About half of part one done.

It’s on Summer Glade by Enchanted Fabric 28ct Monaco.

I haven’t been stitching a lot recently as I have been somewhat rundown, and wanting to do quick projects. The last week I kind of felt like stitching but I had a cold/bug and my eyes have been very irritated (watering non-stop some days) which makes stitching difficult.

I am on antibiotics now, so everything seems to be settling back to normal (today is the first day my eyes haven’t felt like they were going to tear up or blur on me, so I might do some stitching later. That said, I am not sure which project is calling to me loudest.

So instead of stitching, I have been sewing. So far, I have (mostly) made 2 dresses. Mostly I say because one I apparently couldn’t follow instructions properly for (so I fudged it a little – wearable house dress), and the second needs hemming.

I think sewing, like stitching, takes some time to get your head around techniques as such. Also, it doesn’t help that I am not the same shape as standard patterns, so need to fiddle with a lot of them for fit.

Like stitching, sewing is going to take many years to perfect (not that my stitching is perfect, but it is at a stage I am happy with my stitching).

I am just trying to work out what project is calling the loudest. Do I want to finish the spot I am working on? Or is a heart calling to me in the form of a Cirque? Or should I start something new? Hmmmm… or should I try to finish that darned Mermaid of the Pearls (as gorgeous as she is, she is still my stitching nemesis at present)?

Still such a long way to go…

Eventually this will be a big square sampler 😏

Not sure about how the colours work in this little spot, but it is HDF jazzy blue.
